Released to Halfway House!

Patti picked me up at 8:30 am on November 5th and drove me to the Kintock residential reentry center in Newark,NJ. It was such a terrific day to be released and to travel in freedom from 8:30am to 12:30pm. She had all sorts of treats for me in the car. Fresh baked breads, fruit, cheeses, meats, olives, veggies, chips and drinks.  The selection was incredible. Then I received an iPhone 17 pro max as a belated birthday gift. I previously was using an iPhone X max but the front camera was broken and that was gonna be a deal breaker for us. We absolutely love FaceTime and unlimited data plans! We have continued our movie watching together, but watch movies every night now with my father and sometimes Charlotte and Fiona. My reading is now focused on my phone and not books anymore.

The halfway house is basically like a small low security prison. We are locked in and can only freely move between our dorm rooms, cafeteria, bathrooms, computer room and workout room. 4 large dorm rooms house 18 guys per room and 2 small rooms house 8 guys each. It’s similar to prison with lots of noise at night and can be difficult to sleep in my large room. The bathrooms and showers are a little nicer than camp.  Food is a small step up but the portions are smaller.  The small workout room has a station to do pull-ups, dips, sit-ups and pushups along with a treadmill. They used to allow gym passes but guys screwed that up by getting caught not staying at the gym the whole time.

When arriving we are subject to a 14 day blackout period, but they allow weekly church passes and special passes during this time. My first time out of the facility was on Sunday 11/9 from 11-2:45. Patti picked me up and we went to noon mass at Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark. Then on Thursday 11/13 we went to a chiropractor in Union to get my DOT medical card for my CDL. Friday we went to the Edison DMV to get my CDL transferred from PA to NJ. This past Sunday we went to St Adelbert’s Church in Elizabeth. Today staff performed a home inspection and I expect Patti to be able to pick me up tomorrow morning at 9am to go home and then she will need to drive me back by 9pm Sunday night. This will continue each weekend and holiday moving forward as long as I don’t get in trouble. Once I start working, I can go directly home Friday’s after work. I have paperwork in to get our minivan inspected by staff, so I can start driving that soon. Unfortunately I would need to park on the street but at least it is an industry area and not a ghetto.

I’ve put together a resume and have been applying for jobs. No luck yet on interviews, but hopefully soon. I can get passes to interviews. There is a limit of 12 hours per day outside facility for work and if I travel for work I can only go 100 miles from facility. I would love to work for Patti with our pool business but the BOP doesn’t allow for that. I plan to request an exception for that soon. When on probation (scheduled for July) they should approve working for Patti.

BTW, I am adding this post myself and don’t need Kelsy to manage this site anymore.  Thank you Kelsy for all your previous assistance!!
