Earlier this month our lockdown was lifted and everything is currently open and available. We had a field day with the senior class a few days before most of them left, which included kick ball and flag football. Flag football was so popular that they created a four team league which recently had its first two games. Many inmates and the entire RDAP staff came out to watch the games. There is talk about a 3 on 3 basketball league after the flag football season ends in about 7 weeks. I played in the last bit of the first soccer game of the season on Easter Sunday after my visit with Patti. There have also been softball games, beach volleyball and bocce being played with the beautiful warm spring weather. The new RDAP class started and the program is going smoothly. The staff even installed several new TVs and Blu-ray players in the breakrooms.
Kelsy and Mo announced their expecting a baby in November, so Patti and I will be grandparents with my nickname El Padre! Connor made the long drive out to Denver and now has his own apartment in the same building as Kelsy and Mo in downtown Denver. He’s been enjoying hiking along with the rooftop spa and being downtown in a city much nicer and safer than Newark! Gabriel has decided to attend NC State in Raleigh, NC and will leave mid-August. He also was student of the month for March at North Hunterdon High School and had a nice profile on their website.
I had a wonderful Easter weekend with Patti visiting me. She and the younger three children celebrated Easter Sunday at her brother Michael’s house with lots of her family and little kids from her sister Tara’s daughters. The most exciting news is that I received a release date to the Newark halfway house for September 30th. The date is subject to change for several reasons, but we are praying for that date to stay firm. I expect to be in Newark for a few weeks and then hope to be released to home confinement where I can go out daily to work, church and some other things. Patti continues to be busy with work, spring yard work and opening our pool soon with the kids. I hope to be in our pool and spa in October and then be the one leading our pool closing in November!
